Yoruba sculptures and statues from Nigeria

 

Yoruba sculpture is well-known in the West, especially because of its close relationship with the Ifa-Orisha religion (in the diaspora often called Santeria or Lukumi) and Ifa divination. Many of the smaller Yoruba statues are meant for active use in Ifa divination, owo merindinlogun divination ("dilogun"), or in ritual work for any Orisha. The larger among the Yoruba statues and sculptures are also often related to Ifa or Orisha, serving as for example door posts in shrines and temples.
