Ofun-Ogunda
[As etutu the awo licks some red palm oil from his finger]
"Ofun tastes palm oil", the awo of the king or Ara,
cast for the king of Ara, on the day
that they told him that in that same year
the blessing of money would reach him.
They instructed him to make sacrifice.
The Alara listened and offered two pigeons and 2400 cowries.
They said that the whole leaf of the efunle-plant
which is also called "Be white, be white" , looks like money.
"Casting but not tasting palm oil", the awo of Ajereo,
cast for the Ajero of Ijero, on the day
that they told him that in that same year
the blessing of wives would reach him.
They instructed him to make sacrifice.
The Ajero listened and offered two hens and 3200 cowries.
They said that the sticky leaf named " Take with me a wife"
would produce a wife for him, After the Ajero
had sacrificed he married wives.
[Here the awo again licks some palm oil from his finger as etutu]
" If we cast this Ifa, we shall not recite the Odu
before we have put palm oil in our mouth"
was the one who cast Ifa for Oloshosha,
child of Ajirawokin-beje-beje, on the day
that they told him that in that same year
the blessing of children would reach himk.
They instructed him to sacrifice a coop
full of roosters and 12,000 cowries.
They said that getting one child after another is
what the shesheki-plant, who bears many fruits, does.
They said: if his women bear good children,
they will have good children to carry on their backs.
Ifa says that hye sees the blessing of money,
the blessing of wives,
and the blessing of children.
Ofun-Ogunda
Ofun-Ogunda refers to the consequences of morally bad behavior, and the refusal of making the necessary sacrifices. Many clients for whom this Odu falls, are either involved in, or want to be involved in, a potentially dangerous sexual relationship. If Ofun-Ogunda comes with Ire, some of the keywords are: enlightenment, power of endurance, initiation, power, defense against enemies, freedom, shape and form, health, understanding. If this Odu comes with Ibi, some keywords are: confusion, illness, destruction, inconsequent behavior, dissatisfaction, ignorance, weakness, obsession, misdirected energy, domination by others. Ofun-Ogunda, also named Ofun-Eko, Ofuntola or Ofuntopola, is seen in Ifa as very dangerous! An atonement or " etutu" is always made before reciting this Odu, even by very experienced Babalawo's, this often consists of licking some red palm oil off the finger before reciting anhd every now and then during the recitation. The verse/texts in Ofun-Ogunda are never cited without reason AKA " with an empty mouth" .
