Ofun-Oturupon
Ofun was cast for Obatala Oseere-Igbo,
Oturupon was cast for Obatala Oseere-Igbo,
who was told that she would have many children.
Considering that Obatala Oseere-Igbo was a man,
this announcement kind of surprised him, but hey:
Ifa's words are often kind of cryptic, and it's up to us
to figure out what exactly is meant. Anyway,
the whole world would come to her to beg for children.
"Ah," Obatala Oseere-Igbo said, "so these children will be
born by others, and I will just be the fine Spirit
who makes it possible to have them. Aye, I thought
you kind of indicated that I am female, which I ain't."
This having been settled, the eternal confusion that derives
from the Yoruba language having no specific pronouns for
the male and the female, Obatala agreed: "Yes, there will be
many children, and Orunmila will teach them".
Obatala was told to sacrifice, so that Orunmila
would enjoy this work of teaching the children.
He sacrificed honey, salt, some pigeons, and 42,000 cowries.
Ofun-Oturupon was cast for a woman,
who was searching for a good husband.
They're rare, you know, and Ifa said that the husband
she was about to marry was a violent man, who would
beat her regularly... unless she would sacrifice
an aika, which is an animal living in the woods,
two snails on account of snails never fighting each other,
and 32,000 cowries. The woman listened, but did not sacrifice.
she said that her prospective husband was far to handsome
to fight with anybody: he would not spoil his good looks
with a black eye or a broken jaw. Ifa says:
a good loooking person must not fight,
in order not so spoil their looks.
Ebo: one aika, two snails, and 32,000 cowries.
Ofun-Oturupon
Ofun-Oturupon tends to indicate fertility, but also the necessity to sacrifice in order to keep fights and quarrels out of relationships. In fact a relationship or affair needs some positive pushes to keep florishing. If it does, the time for thinking about children has arrived. Warning with regard to Ofun-Oturupon! The client should be alerted to, and asked about, the possibility of anything infectious or contagious, and anything that might cause a fever. That can be any kind of inflammation, infectious disease, contamination, poisoning... that kind of stuff. Really, this needs thorough examination! It can be something as simple as the risk of a light food poisoning on the one hand, or a severe warning against the HIV virus on the other.
