Ogbe-Owonrin
"Bend iron with the hand,
break the rope with the foot"
was cast for Orunmila, on the day
that the Irunmole accompanied him to Otufe.
They instructed him to sacrifice, to avoid
accidents on the way, and to evade Death.
Orunmila listened and made the sacrifice.
Ebo: 3 roosters, 6000 cowries and a knife.
They told Orunmila to keep
the knife for his own use.
Ifa says this person is in danger.
After having recited the above text, the Awo could add the following private and personal recitation for the client:
Ifa says this person is in danger,
or will be in danger soon. If this person
contemplates a voyage, he should be
very much alert on compensating for
other peoples' mistakes, like in traffic.
And Ifa says we should prepare to ward off
a mugging or a burglary, so prepare!
This person is accompanied by strong
spiritual powers, who will help him.
"Marry the one and the one thing happens,
marry the other and the other thing happens"
were the ones who cast Ifa for Koko-yam, on the day
that she made her choice between marrying
Apata or marrying Akuro. They instructed her
to sacrifice four pigeons, and four pieces
of knotted carpet. Koko-yam listend
and made the sacrifice. Then she was told
that Akuro would be her suitable husband:
if Koko became succesful, so would Akuro.
Ifa says that this client can only make
the right choice in an important matter
after having made a sacrifice.
After having recited the above text, the Awo may decide to continue with the following explanation and additional information for the client:
And Ifa says that this client is confronted
with a matter of mutual interest, the issue
he came for is not only personal because
others are involved. The point is: some people
bring out the best in you, while others
only bring out the worst. That goes both ways,
of course - some people glow and radiate
whehn they're wityh you, while others
wither and die. So your question to Ifa
should be: who is my Akuro, because
Akuro and ourself bring out the best in each other.
With Apata on the other hand it will end in death.
"A thick fog that appears at the end of the road"
was the Awo who cast for Olofin. They instructed
Olofin to make sacrifice, in order for Ogbe
to give him good companions on his journey
and lots of prosperity on the way. Three
roosters, three bowls of mashed yams,
and soup were the offering. Olofin
listened, and collected and made the offering.
His life and journey became good.
The above text may be continued by the Awo reciting the following private addition:
Ifa says that this client must become
much more socially oriented, in order
to make his voyage, whether this is the
journey of life or just a temporary trip,
much easier and much more fruitful.
For if the thick fog only appears at the end
of the journey there's no problem at all, but
when it appears while you are still on your way
it is very pleasant and useful to have a companion
who knows the way and helps you out! And now
for something completely different: if we are in doubt
whether to invite certain people for dinner, we should
stop hesitating and invite them for some good food indeed!
